Brighton has qualified for the UEFA Europa League (UEL) for the first time in club history.

It was City who struck first in the match. Phil Foden broke the deadlock in the 25th minute, assisted by Elling Holland. In the 31st minute, Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma rattled the net, but the goal was disallowed due to a handball foul. Brighton, who continued to create chances, broke the deadlock in the 38th minute when Julio Enciso scored from mid-range to make it 1-1.
Holland then scored a header in the 33rd minute, but the goal was disallowed after video assistant referee (VAR) review. After a fiercely contested match, the teams were unable to settle for a 1-1 draw.
The draw leaves Brighton with 18 wins, eight draws and 11 losses (62 points), four points clear of seventh-place Aston Villa (58 points) for sixth place. As a result, the Seagulls earned a spot in the UEFA UEL for the 2023-24 season, which is awarded to the fifth- and sixth-place teams in the EPL.
This is Brighton’s first appearance in a European club competition since the club was founded in 1901. The Seagulls were promoted to the EPL after finishing second in the Championship in the 2016-17 season.
Brighton will host Aston Villa in the EPL final on May 29 at Villa Park in Birmingham, England.
