Tottenham Hotspur could be on the verge of signing an England international center back. “Tottenham legend” Michael Dawson, 40, has recommended the signing of Harry Maguire, 30, of Manchester United.
“Tottenham legend Dawson has urged Spurs to sign Maguire for 40 million pounds (about 656 million won),” the UK’s Metro reported on Sept. 29.
Dawson is a former center back who played for Tottenham for nearly a decade. He was with Spurs from 2005 to 2014, and even wore the captain’s armband. He also helped Spurs win the League Cup in the 2007-2008 season, their last title.
“There will be a lot of people looking for Maguire,” Dawson said, according to the Metro, “I would take him to Tottenham tomorrow. I think the big clubs will get him for £40 million.”
Maguire is likely to leave United this summer. He became the most expensive defender in history when he joined United for a whopping £80 million in 2019, but has fallen into a sharp decline since last season. He started just eight league games this season.
United are also preparing to say goodbye to him. They are actively pursuing the signing of Kim Min-Jae (Napoli), so Maguire’s space will be even smaller next season 토토사이트.
Maguire is also reportedly attracting interest from Serie A giants and several Premier League teams. According to the UK’s Give Me Sport, “There are teams who want Maguire. Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Newcastle United, and West Ham United are among the clubs keeping tabs on him,” according to Give Me Sports. However, it remains to be seen if they are willing to take on Maguire’s high salary and transfer fee.
If Maguire were to pull on a Spurs jersey, he would be paired with Dyer. “Spurs could field an England international combination of Maguire-Dyer,” says the Metro. Maguire’s career hasn’t gone to plan in Manchester. If he tries to revive his career at another club, it could be a win-win situation.”
However, the title of England international doesn’t carry much weight. Maguire has long since been pushed out of the starting lineup, and Dyer is constantly criticized for his lack of defense. There is also a growing chorus of local criticism of Dyer.
On top of that, Spurs have conceded a whopping 63 goals in 38 league games this season, the sixth most in the league. They’ve also slipped to eighth place, their worst finish in 14 years. Spurs can’t afford to take a gamble on Maguire.
Former Arsenal man Paul Merson also weighed in with a negative opinion: “It’s difficult. Maguire plays for one of the biggest teams in the world. I know he doesn’t belong in a team like that,” he said, adding, “He’s been working hard, but he’s had a couple injuries that have taken him down.”
“It’s probably going to be hard for him to leave, but he has to go. I don’t know who will take him. If his price tag is £40 million to £50 million, I don’t think there are many teams that want him.”
