Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have been aggressive in their pursuit of Lee Kante, it has been revealed, due to Kylian Mbappe’s refusal to extend his contract.
The player’s future has been in doubt recently, with Atletico Madrid, who have been interested since last winter, having stalled negotiations with Mallorca. In the Premier League, there have been reports of interest from the likes of Aston Villa, but nothing concrete has emerged regarding a deal.
However, the possibility of a move quickly grew after reports emerged that PSG were interested in Lee.
Spanish outlet Marca reported on the 13th (KST) that “PSG are interested in Lee. Having watched him for some time, PSG have guaranteed him a place in the first team. PSG president Luis Campos has guaranteed him a place in the first team and the chance to play in European competitions,” and reported PSG’s active interest in the player.
Meanwhile, local Spanish media outlets, which have been actively reporting on Lee’s signing and even broke the news of Atletico’s failed negotiations with Mallorca, have revealed how active PSG are in pursuing Lee and why, further increasing the chances of Lee joining PSG.
On the 13th, Spanish outlet Relevo reported that “Lee is one step away from joining PSG”.
“It’s a reversal of fortunes. After reports that Atletico were not in the running for the player, it was confirmed that the competition from Premier League clubs was fierce, but then PSG came along. They have been monitoring the player for months and have accelerated the deal,” he said, adding that PSG have been monitoring the player for quite some time and have been active in their recent pursuit.
“The negotiations between PSG and Mallorca are very advanced and both sides are confident that a deal will be finalised soon. The contract between PSG and the player has already been agreed and the two clubs are in the process of finalising the deal by discussing bonuses,” he said, adding that Lee’s contract with PSG is already in place and negotiations between the clubs are also being finalised.
On the same day, Spanish outlet Marca revealed that PSG had moved ahead in the negotiations for Lee and were able to advance the deal. “PSG have made a €22 million (£30.3 billion) offer for Lee. PSG are negotiating the final details of an offer that is close to being the biggest transfer fee in Mallorca’s history. Lee is counting the minutes to leave Mallorca. PSG are willing to pay €22 million to sign him,” according to a source close to the deal, which would put PSG’s asking price significantly higher than Atletico’s.
If Marca’s report is true, PSG’s offer is very close to the €25 million buyout clause. This is in stark contrast to Atletico’s reluctance to pay even €10 million. 메이저놀이터
L’Equipe also revealed the reason why PSG were so keen to sign Lee: Mbappe.
Mbappe was recently reported by European media to have indicated that he would not be extending his contract with PSG. Mbappe’s sudden refusal to extend his contract could force PSG to sell him in the summer or winter transfer window.
“PSG have watched Mbappe’s stay collapse over the last few hours and are moving decisively. They are likely to complete the deal in the next few days,” Lelevo said, noting that the club moved faster to sign him after Mbappe’s declaration.
With the butterfly effect of Mbappe’s move increasing the likelihood of Lee joining PSG’s core, there will be plenty of interest in how Lee will fit into the star-studded PSG squad if he does make the move.
